I am so amped to share with you Joel and Russell’s wedding that I second shot for Shang Saavedra Photography at Turner Hill Mansion. They’re the sweetest couple ever. This was my first gay wedding I got to photograph. I felt incredibly humbled and honored to be a part of their big day. I knew I always wanted to be a part of a LGBT wedding but hadn’t had a chance to attend or photograph one until Shang asked me to second shoot Joel and Russell’s wedding. I remembered being really excited the day before; it was almost the same feeling about going on a trip as a kid and couldn’t sleep the night before. On the day of the wedding, everything was magical. I could feel all the emotions of friends and family and how privileged to be there because same-sex weddings were not yet legal in all states. I still couldn’t believe this all happened but I’m very happy it did.
Joel is originally from North Kingstown and moved to Boston to study law. Russell is from just outside of Boston, also a lawyer. Their first date was brunch in the South End, one of their favorite places to explore. The two share a love and passion of traveling and eating. In December 2011, Joel proposed to Russell and made him the happiest man alive. Check out their wedding photos.
They’re lawyers, of course they love reading.
I can’t caption this, there’s too much cuteness!
Awwww, Russell’s mom was walking him down the aisle and was so happy for him, I wanted to give them a big hug right there.
Yay! They’re happily married!
Russell completed his clerkship in Vermont for the judge who is his officiant (second to the right).
The toasts were funny and moving. This was such an emotional wedding, love it!
Joel and Russell had such a great time.
These guys were having a blast.
It was such an honor to photograph Joel and Russell’s wedding at Turner Hill Mansion. Thank you Shang Saavedra Photography for allowing me to be a part of this fabulous celebration.
