Museum of Science, wedding photography – these two phrases got my beyond excited when Lauren and Paul got in touch with me. From the time I first chatted with them via Skype, I knew they were a cool couple (I mostly got that because Paul wore a Boston T-shirt, they were still in Germany then). The week of their wedding, they came to Boston and we did a Boston Common engagement session and I loved them even more because they were such a spontaneous and laid-back couple.
Lauren and Paul met in 2005 in Munich, Germany at the Oktoberfest! As Paul described, there were thousands of people at the Oktoberfest, and he managed to find Lauren there. I guess you can say they are truly meant to be together. They still live in Munich. Lauren is from Boston, MA (Weymouth, to be exact) and Paul is from Cork, Ireland.
They were in Boston just before Thanksgiving 2011, when Paul popped the question. They’ve had a long enough engagement to make sure that their family and friends in Ireland and Germany would be able to make their plans to attend the wedding.
This is my all time favorite shot… I mean who doesn’t like dinosaurs.
And they’re on a space ship to the moon!
Awww, Lauren’s got the teary eyes. The toasts are quite moving.
Such a sweet moment of their first dance. So lucky I caught this.
I love this photo of Lauren and Paul dancing with their siblings.
This is my favorite shot of Lauren and her [professional] maid of honor Maggie (inside story).
WORK IT PAUL!!!
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding celebration?
Lauren: So many! Our first look, the end of the ceremony walking down the aisle as Mr & Mrs and having that gorgeous breeze off the Charles on our 93 degree day.
Paul: The first look. Seeing my then future wife for the first time. Once the excitement of the first look was done, the rest of the day seemed to run along with a life of it’s own.
Any advice for future brides/grooms?
Lauren: Learn to delegate and don’t be afraid to do so. We did alot ourselves on multilpe visits to Boston, but we had so many loving friends and family offering to help in any way they could. Eventually, we did start accepting those offers and it just made our wedding day and week of that little bit less stressful.
Paul: Do things because you want to do them, not because it’s a tradition where you are. Don’t worry can always start your own tradition or borrow someone else’s. If you want to have the cake before the dinner, do that (btw. that’s a tradition in Germany).
Funniest memory of the night?
Lauren: My maid of honor’s speech mentioned our mutual love of NSYNC being the glue that has held our friendship together, then my brother requested “Bye Bye Bye” and showed off some pretty sick dance moves, including a battle with my new husband. It was epic.
Paul: The speeches. Everyone from Lauren’s dad to my dad, to the bridesmaid Maggie to Ciarán my best man, managed to entertain people.
Where are you going for honeymoon?
Lauren & Paul: Vieques Island, Puerto Rico
