Nantasket Beach Wedding – Rose & Susan

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Rose and Susan’s wedding at the Nantasket Beach Resort. I love these guys so much I made a photo + video fusion slideshow for them. It was a fabulous way to document the day in both still and motion formats. Especially when I’m a production major, it makes sense for me to incorporate video into my services, right?!

Rose and Susan are such a sweet couple. They met at a car dealership, Rose was Susan’s customer. She would go to the dealership on a certain day once a year, for 5 years, to have her car checked up. I guess you can say… if it’s meant to be, it would happen. This is the case for them. Rose took a risk and asked Susan out to the movies. You can picture how calm she appeared on the outside, said “sure!” but her heart was POUNDING!!! That made her the luckiest girl on the whole planet. They’ve been together for 15 years… which makes them the couple that’s been together the longest that I’ve ever photographed. The second longest was about 13 years (Allison & Ryan).

Take a look at how much love there is in the air…

This was one of the funny moments on the dance floor. Rose’s bracelet got caught on the back of Susan’s cloth, it got stuck for a while and they were hugging, so their friend saw the opportunity and started grinding on them. Just look at Susan’s face, it was priceless!

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding celebration?

Susan: Seeing Rose standing under the Chuppah and feeling so happy! The love in the room that day is something I will never forget!

Rose: The absolute most memorable moment was seeing Susan for the first time, when she came around the corner, how beautiful she looked, and feeling so much love for her in that moment. There was an audible reaction from our guests, and they spontaneously stood up. The entire day was magical. I just remember gazing into Susan’s eyes during the ceremony, and feeling all the love surrounding us in the room. It was as if time stood still. Everything and everyone was so beautiful. Best day of my life!

Any advice for future brides?

Susan: In the end it all comes together, and just have the best day of your life!

Rose: I read this somewhere and it’s totally true – “Remember that at the end of the day, if you are married to the love of your life, then you have had the perfect wedding.” The day really is about you and celebrating your love. Invite everyone you’d like to have present and share in the experience. Little touches can help transform a room into a special space.

Funniest memory of the night?

Susan: Seeing Rose’s shoes.

Rose: Cutting the cake. We didn’t know where to cut the first slice. Susan said she didn’t have any experience cutting wedding cakes. I said, well, if you found someone who did, I’d be worried! Later on, after the ceremony, we learned that there was a last-minute decision to trim the Chuppah, so it would fit under the ceiling and could be centered in front of the aisle. So, that was why one of our friends was asking if she still had sawdust in her hair! The beauty of it was that we had no idea any of this was going on. And it showed what great friends we have!

Why is it important to you that your wedding vendors are gay-friendly?

Susan: At no point in the process did I want to feel uncomfortable, or judged. We were so blessed to have vendors that just did not blink an eye and were caught up in making it a great beautiful day!

Rose: It’s important because it made us feel more comfortable, and we didn’t feel like we had to explain ourselves. Best day ever. Highly recommend it!

Here’s a wedding I’m MEGA excited to share, it’s not only because it’s a same-sex wedding, but also I made a photo + video fusion slideshow!!! There will be two blog posts for this wedding: one of this slideshow and another of the usual picture-heavy post with some fabulous Q&As from the couple, which I’m quite excited to share as well.

Boston Skyline + ICA Engagement Session – Rani & Tom

When I first received an email from Rani, I was completely psyched. She got engaged to her fiance, Tom, that past Friday and the first thing that came to her mind was to have me photograph their engagement session. I met Rani from a Northeastern business case competition two years ago; she was the organizer and I was the photographer. I had no idea she had been following me on Facebook.  It’s amazing how we’re reconnected after these years :p

I feel like we had so much in common. Rani and I grew up in the city. They chose to do their engagement session in front of the Boston skyline and we immediately fell in love with this place near the ICA, which by the way, in some of the photos below, we purposefully made it so that you’d never be able to tell they were taken at the same spot. Photographing these two was a breeze. We were having so much fun the whole time and you can easily tell they naturally belong to each other. I’m just super excited to see them get hitched.

Guess where they’re having their wedding… hint: it’s in one of these buildings :)

I’m obsessed with this one. Can you tell it was taken around the same spot as the next photo?

We waited until more lights were turned on in the buildings and the skyline looked absolutely stunning.

Much love you two :)

Update:

I received a review from Rani on Yelp. It was the BEST review ever!!!

“We were looking for a photographer to take photos for our save the dates, and I had followed Sam on Facebook after he had taken photographs of a business competition I was running back in college. Over the years (and largely due to my Facebook stalking skills)- I was able to view multiple engagement/wedding sessions and thought Sam’s photos were incredible and the couples really showed honest feelings and emotions in the photographs. After getting engaged, I immediately set-up an engagement session on the Boston Harbor near the ICA. Sam made us super comfortable and we really had an unforgettable experience during the session. The icing on the cake? The photos came out amazing!! Our mothers cried and we were elated. I am now hiring Sam to do my wedding, because I know I will get nothing but the best in service, quality, professionalism, and probably the most important: passion. Highly recommend!!”

The Log Cabin Holyoke Wedding – Allison & Ryan

Wow, I can’t believe how beautiful Allison and Ryan’s wedding at the Log Cabin, Holyoke was. If you ask me what I loved most about the wedding, it would be the ceremony overlooking mountains and forests. My dream wedding is on an actual mountain top and this is the closest I’ve seen so far. I haven’t quite figured out why mountain, as opposed to a beach, or vineyard. I’ll let you know once I figured it out. But anyways…

Allison and Ryan’s wedding is one of the MOST special ones to me because they were the very first client who booked me for wedding coverage, and I’m extremely grateful and honored that they have this incredible amount of trust in me. All of this wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t photographed the fashion show at my school and one of the runway model’s mom, Donna, was friends with Allison.  I feel like I’ve known Allison since forever. From the first time we met to their engagement session and now, it’s been almost 2 years.

Here’s the story about how Allison and Ryan met. When they were 16, still in high school, they went on a blind date set up by their friends. Not having a clue how it would unfold, they turned out to be the perfect match. I’ve always believed that opposites attract. Allison and Ryan were quite opposite from each other. Allison is like the party girl and Ryan would take some time for him to warm up. Despite the differences, they’ve been together ever since. Even in college, they made every effort to see each other. Allison went to UMass Amherst and Ryan went to Curry College. They would drive for 2.5 hours to see each other on a regular basis. This, my friend, is commitment and dedication.

Fast forward to May of 2010, while on a trip to Chicago, he finally put a ring on it. They tied the knot in 2012 at the beautiful Log Cabin in Holyoke. The mountain view is spectacular, words can not describe it, you have to see the pictures for yourself…

The bridesmaids were so fun, we had to do a series of individual portraits and and they look fab together.

I love how they were all serious, serious, serious… BAM, Derek worked it!

Ceremony started. As Allison walked down the aisle and they saw each other for the first time, it was emotional. I love capturing these moments that’ll help them remember the feeling. In this case, a picture is better than a thousand words.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding celebration?

There were so many memorable moments from the wedding day, it is hard to choose.  But I would have to say definitely the moment I walked down the aisle and first saw Ryan standing there is my absolute favorite.  I was so worried about all eyes on me walking down, but as soon as I saw Ryan my anxiety disappeared and it was like no one else was there.

Any advice for future brides/grooms?

Just have fun and try to savor every moment because it does go by fast.  And if you are having fun, your guests are going to have fun.

Funniest memory of the night?

The dancing in general…from the worm to people on their backs during twist and shout, so memorable!

Where are you going for honeymoon?

Ireland in March 2013!  :)
