Catalyst Cambridge Wedding – Christina & Dave

Just the day before the wedding, Christina and Dave had an intimate ceremony in Harvard Square. Cambridge. I was blown away by her gorgeous dresses and sparkly shoes (yes, different dresses and shoes on different days). We gathered at the Rooftop Garden in Kendall Square, Cambridge for some bridal party and family formals. It was a really lovely place and the weather worked with us for the most part. The bright sun kept coming and going away very fast but we did find a spot with consistent lighting. What I loved most about Christina and Dave were their spontaneity and laid-back personality, and the fact that they’re good dancers made it even better.

I love a fun bridal party.

The coordinator, Sara, did a wondering job. They made sure the photographers (me and Tiffany) had our meals at the same time as the bride and groom so we wouldn’t miss anything afterwards.

Aren’t those shoes gorgeous? Christina’s co-workers bought them as a wedding gift, they sure make the other girls jealous :p

The venue was closed for a few hours just for the cocktail hour before guests head into the private room for the reception.

Brad Seaman - Sam – Amazing shots, I really love how you created grids for all of the small group guest shots at the reception. Great Idea!

What really created the wow factor was non-photography related, the fact that you took the time to not only gather all of the vendor info, but to add it to the blog, such a fantastic idea!

Once I actually get my blog going I’m definitely going to steal this idea :D

Should I Send an Invitation to My Wedding Photographer?

This is going to be a really short post, so I’m going to get straight to the point…

You’ve probably wondered if you should send a save-the-date and invitation to your wedding vendors. While I can’t speak for anyone else, there’s actually one good reason why you should sent them to your photographer – he or she can photograph them so there’s one fewer thing to remember to bring on your wedding day. Believe it or not, a lot of people forget despite my numerous reminders. There are so many things to bring, from the obvious ones (your wedding dress, shoes, jewelry, etc.) to the miscellaneous (see 10 Wedding Details You Don’t Want to Forget), it only takes an envelop and a stamp to cross that on your to-do list.

One more reason you should send it to your photographer is so that he/she can pick a meal preference in advance so it saves your planner or venue coordinator’s trouble to find out last minute. What if your photographer’s allergic to certain kinds of food? (just FYI, I’m not allergic to anything.)

Thanks Allison for sending along these cute save-the-date and invitation :) I can’t wait for your wedding at the Log Cabin in September!

Boston Lesbian Wedding Photography – Melissa & Jamie

Last Sunday night I received an email from Melissa about her gay wedding the next day. She and her now-legal-wife, Jamie, are from Tampa, Florida, who came to Boston to get married. I was thrilled to be a part of it. They arrived to Boston several days before and while waiting for their paperwork to be processed in City Hall, they took a trip to P-town, where I’ve been dying to go since high school. When they got back, it was time that they were legally announced wife and wife. Since City Hall wasn’t the prettiest place to be photographed, they decided to do a post wedding photo session. I’m so glad they found me and I had so much fun being an unofficial tour guide for a day. We went to some of the Boston landmarks, including Boston Common, the South End, New England Aquarium waterfront, and Faneuil Hall, all within walking distance. I was so glad to show Melissa and Jamie things in Boston that they would have never seen in Florida, and hopefully convinced them to move to Boston :p

We were feeling extra adventurous and let ourselves in the restaurant that was supposedly closed; turned on some lights and music, and made ourselves at home. Lesbian wedding photographer Boston gay engagement session Downtown Nine Zero Hotel Lesbian wedding photographer Boston gay engagement session Downtown Nine Zero Hotel Lesbian wedding photographer Boston gay engagement session I was pleasantly surprised to see how comfortable they were being intimate in public. Tampa Florida, as you know, isn’t as liberal as is Boston. It made me so happy that they “past the point of caring what unaccepting individuals think or feel.” Lesbian wedding photographer Boston gay engagement session Lesbian wedding photographer Boston gay engagement session Boston Common Public Garden Lesbian wedding photographer Boston gay engagement session New England Aquarium waterfront Melissa also told me they were “self critical and never seemed to both smile at the same time.” I would have never guessed so. They were the happiest couple with the biggest smiles!

Congratulations Melissa and Jamie! I hope you two enjoy your wonderful married life :)

Update:

Melissa just wrote an awesome testimonial. It was really touching that I was able to make such impact on people’s lives by documenting their happiest memories; this is what makes being a wedding photographer very rewarding.

“Our family have a longstanding tradition of non-traditional weddings. It works for us. They end up being very successful in the long run. That being said, we found ourselves making our wedding plans as we went along. There was not a great deal of planning beyond rings, location, and date. When we arrived in Boston with an eminent date and time in front of us, we suddenly realized that we wanted to document the happiest moments of our lives with photography. We searched for and found a photographer that could accommodate our timeframe, location, and non-traditional wedding plans. Sam was able to exceed our expectations in every way. We were able to work with him with a short lead time. He was warm, charming, and made us feel at ease immediately. Sam was able to offer us access to locations that we would never have thought to use for our photographs, and the backgrounds for our photos were nothing less than spectacular. He has an amazing eye for composition and an uncanny way of capturing the candid emotion of the event. We cannot imagine this experience with another photographer. Sam did a wonderful job.”

Harvard Square Cambridge Wedding – Christina & Dave

Last week I wrote a blog post about the pros and cons of having an outdoor wedding ceremony featuring some of the Christina and Dave’s images below. I’m so excited to share more photos of their wedding ceremony in Harvard Square, Cambridge. They’re one of my most favorite couples; I particularly adore their goofy expressions, fun and laid-back personalities. They decided to have their ceremony the day before their wedding and I’m so happy they did because we were able to spend more time doing formals and since nothing was rushed, everything was more relaxed. The ceremony itself took about 15 minutes and we did some family formals afterwards. The lighting could not be more perfect and we got to work with such a fabulous location their Justice of the Peace (see more about her below) picked out in advance.

I also photographed their engagement session in Harvard Square, which is now featured on Beantown Bride.

Big shout out to the incredible Justice of the Peace Denise Simmons, who is the former mayor of Cambridge. She scouted out this awesome location beforehand and worked with the photographer (in this case, me) to position the bride and groom that worked best for lighting. I feel  incredibly grateful to have Patrick and Roger’s same-sex wedding featured on 4 Real Equality Weddings - a wedding blog dedicated primarily to gay and lesbian weddings. Thanks Emily for having this awesome couple on your blog.

It makes me feel really good not only because my work gets seen by a larger audience, but also I’ve noticed more and more wedding blogs are embracing same-sex weddings.
