Non-Traditional DIY Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center Wedding

Gretchenrae and Molly’s Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center wedding was totally awesome to say the least. They incorporated lots of DIY details from their bouquets, place cards, hair and makeup, and even music. I could tell they planned their wedding with intentions by prioritizing what’s important and DIYing things they could do themselves. One of the really special things the brides did was incorporating Filipino wedding traditions into their ceremony; it was really cool to see brides embracing multicultural and non-traditional weddings. Another one of my favorite highlights was the acapella group performance during reception, I wish I get to see more of them at weddings.

Gretchenrae and Molly were incredibly fun to photograph, as you could already tell from their Arnold Arboretum engagement session. They weren’t afraid to be themselves and to show off their goofy side, which make them such a great couple.

The ceremony was really special. They incorporated some of the Filipino wedding traditions so it was multicultural. Clearly, the venue, Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center, was a perfect fit for them.

First look gay wedding.

It was an intimate ceremony and I really like how the seats were laid out instead of the traditional rows after rows.

I had a blast photographing Gretchenrae and Molly’s wedding at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center. The intimate settings, DIY details, and the ceremony with modified tradition were all so creative and fresh, not to mention the brides were so fun to work with. Here are a few words from the newly wed couple:

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding celebration?
“The whole ceremony and the intentionality of the ceremony was probably the most memorable moment for us. We made choices in the ceremony that departed from tradition and modified tradition to fit our own values. Because of those choices, the whole ceremony was incredibly memorable because it was such a reflection of us as a couple.”

Funniest memory of the night?
“We have two! The first one was when we fed JoJo (one of the young children) cake during our cake cutting. The second was when Kevin Lin (a close friend) was using the disposable camera to take pictures of JoJo and Anna (the other young child) and Gretchenrae and I photobombed it.”

Any advice for future brides and grooms?
“Do it your own way and don’t be afraid to be authentic to who you are. We loved our wedding because we didn’t feel confined by tradition and instead did things that made us happy. The whole day felt very special because it truly felt like our wedding, rather than a wedding out of a magazine.

Also, self-care during the week of the wedding. We found it very helpful to take time off the week before the wedding to finish up DIY projects and go to the gym. It helped the week not be stressful, which allowed us to go into our wedding with the right mindset.”

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?
“Sharing the same last name and lots of new adventures!”
